Health Sciences & Technology,

My academic journey started with the six-year Technical Medicine degree in the Netherlands. This program is a unique interdisciplinary program that culminated in an engineering degree and registration as healthcare professional.

During my Master's I conducted research at renowned institutions such as the Netherlands Cancer Institute, Saitama University in Japan, and at MIT and Harvard in Boston. My research focussed on machine learning applications for medical imaging and federated learning.

I obtained a PhD from the University of Amsterdam, where I researched the prediction of treatment outcomes in depression. In this role I combined technical machine learning research with clinical responsibilities in initiating and conducting the LEOPARD clinical trial. Our most notable work was published in the American Journal of Psychiatry. After completion of this degree, we investigated the commercial feasibility of our solution and raised several funds to continue this work.

After defending my doctorate I started as clinical research scientist and clinical product manager for DeepHealth in 2024.

Best,

Maarten Poirot
