In August 2021 I participated the full Ironman of Vichy. It was a unique and rewarding challenge. Since this was also my first ever triathlon event, I learned a lot. Let me walk you through my preparation and experience, in the hope that it may motivate you to push your own boundaries!
Ironman is a brand of triathlon races. A full Ironman consists of a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride, and full marathon (42.2km) run. The average finish time is about 12.5 hours, so it is an endurance race. To prepare, I trained for 12-14 hours per week, with a focus on swimming and running
Key preparation were open water swimming, and running.
The swimming leg as pretty chaotic, and other people’s splashing made orientation difficult.
The bike leg was probably the best part of the race. The crowd was amazing, the rolling hills were beautiful and the weather was not too hot.
By the time I started my run, I started to feel pretty sick, and it was getting really hot. But I finished the marathon just under four hours.
